Meet the Musicians – Conversations With the Artists Making Music for Australia’s Children

In the lead up to the 2026 Australian Children’s Music Awards, hosted by Major Minor Music Australia, we wanted to get to know some of the nominated musicians better through a series of conversations.

Speaking to these artists – some who have been in the industry for over a decade and some who are just starting out – it became clear what a supportive community is built around the business of entertaining kids. And, how much they want to spread the word about how diverse and talented the acts making music for children in this country are.

Get to know with us Pevan & Sarah, The Vegetable Plot, Whistle & Trick, Spaghetti Confetti and The Gumboots.

Pevan & Sarah

Pevan & Sarah are educators turned entertainers who are keenly attuned to the classroom. Their Cub Club subscription is used by early years teachers across the country. Each year, they tour large and small cities where they are met by adoring fans. Watch our interview with Sarah here.

The Vegetable Plot

The Vegetable Plot is helmed by musician and funny-man Luke Escombe, who has created a world of veggie characters and produce puns all in service of music that the whole family can listen to together. Over their many years on the scene, the Vegetable Plot has released three albums, toured countless shows, and continually looked for ways to expand their artistry through puppetry, a YouTube series and more. Whistle & Trick

Whistle & Trick is the dream team of childhood friends, musicians, and educators Esther and Maddy. Their focus is on fun, but they’re not mad if a nice message makes its way in, as well (once a teacher, always a teacher!). You can see what a blast they’re having on their two seasons of videos on ABC iView. Their latest album is a gorgeous collection of lullabies. Find our chat with Esther and Maddy here:

Spaghetti Confetti

Spaghetti Confetti started out as the brainchild of musical pals Ceeds and Yodsey, and over the past few years, they’ve been tweaking the lineup and sound to get to the big, joyous, ska-inspired current iteration that can be heard on their debut album. Instantly recognisable by their signature tie-dye, Spaghetti Confetti loves a live gig and a tune you can dance along to. See our chat with Ceeds here:

The Gumboots

Elodie, Melia and Ben think kids deserve no less than the rocking-est best – and what do kids want to rock to? Cockroaches, leeches, wobat poo, and jackhammers to name a few hot topics on their debut album! They made a splash at the 2025 Australian Children’s Music Awards as winners of the Michael McGlynn Newcomer prize and since then have been recording, making cool videos and doing gigs.
